The Zealey Residence was constructed for a very neat couple from Australia. They had built several homes back home and brought fun and innovative ideas to the project. Innovative wood paneling on the ceiling, art hallways, and doors that disappear into the wall are a few of the unique details. This home features dramatic views overlooking Jordanelle Reservoir, Deer Valley, and Mt. Timpanogos. Despite the cold winter temperatures and warm summers this home makes it easy to be comfortable. Specialty windows, overhangs engineered to keep the sun out in the summer and bring it in in the winter are a few of the passive systems incorporated into the building. In addition to the passive design several inches of rigid insulation has been added to the exterior of the home that adds to the blown in insulation in walls and ceilings. Air tight construction was a must, and testing was done during construction to ensure heat loss through air infiltration was mitigated. Geothermal Heating, Solar Electric, HRV’s and lighting controls complete the active systems for this impressive Mountain Modern home.
